The Brownstone Steakhouse in Downtown Canton

Posted by: laurathornton on: June 15, 2010

It always requires a risk to start a new business in hard economic times. And, that is exactly what the Ziegler family did when starting a brand new restaurant in downtown Canton. This is exactly what downtown needed. I am happy to see someone take that kind of risk right now. It’s nice to hear of a new business being opened up and jobs being offered right in the core of our city.

“A bit of fun mixed with a lot of class,” is how I would describe the new steakhouse. This restaurant is far from the normal chain steakhouse. The food is excellent and the service is exceptional along with a lively atmosphere. I am still raving over the chicken sandwhich I had during lunch a few weeks back. I even took my mother down for a steak dinner for Mother’s Day. The steak was superb and our waitress Stephanie was wonderful.

The most impressive thing The Brownstone Steakhouse has had to offer is when they helped me by sponsoring my “Downtown Mixer” event. This was a free networking event I held for local business professionals June 1, 2010. They had Passport 7 provide live music during the event and opened their establishment to all to have the opportunity to make new connections and promote their business. It was a lovely event and I am very grateful for their participation.

If you hadn’t had the chance to check out this wondrous restaurant downtown, definitely get down there when you can. It’s right next to the Palace Theater on Market Ave. They often have live entertainment on the weekends and great lunch specials as well. There will be more networking events taking place there as well so stay tuned for updates…

Stark Love

Posted by: laurathornton on: March 25, 2010

After my step-brother was tragically murdered last month, I came to realize something. Our local news does not include enough positive or inspiring local news as they should. They focus more on the bad than the good and it’s time for a change.

I have learned over the years a great deal about the law of attraction. If you are not aware of what the ‘law of attraction’ is, it means “like attracts like”. And, basically we create our own environment. Focusing on the negative, only brings more of it. I understand that we have to report the news, but I guarantee that there is just as much good news taking place that goes unreported. I believe that the “good stuff” is what will sell more papers.

Violence attracts more violence. Unfortunately, Stark County has seen way too much over the years. What I have yet to see is our community stand together and try to change this. All we have heard lately is negative news about our area. People are leaving. We need to step up and show them why this is not a dying area. Regardless of what our own media tells us. I want to shine a light on Stark once again.

I created this blog as a source of compassion and positivity for are county. I want all the good news we can find! I want to know of all the uplifting events, news, advice, etc. Do you have a business that is hiring instead of firing? Did you create a new business in this so-called recession? Are your sales up in your business? Are your children doing something so amazing you can’t wait to shout it out? Do you have photos showing the joy and beauty of the people and places of Stark? Do you know of charity events or local heroes? Do you know of someone who is contributing to the community? Whatever you have that is good going on, let me know. This is however, not a place to spam and advertise. You have to show me the benefit to the entire community.

Let’s be creative with this. All ideas can be emailed to me at lthornton0215@yahoo.com. I will blog about all the ideas that I feel will help in the final goal. Showing people why Stark is still where the Love is.

My Halloween Pumpkin is still in really good shape. Look closely. It’s covered in ice. I had to snap a shot.

In Perfect Timing…

Posted by: laurathornton on: January 5, 2010

Over the last couple years, I’ve come to realize that there really is a way to optimize your social media results by strategically planning your content and when to post it. I’m sure that this concept has been mentioned before, but this is my spin on it.

Morning: INSPIRE & MOTIVATE ~ The best time to post an inspiring quote or motivating video is the morning. This is when I need a boost to create a momentum for the rest of my day. When a day starts out bad, it tends to spiral downwards. I choose to be uplifted first and then proceed with success for the rest of my day.

Afternoon: INFORM & EDUCATE ~ By mid-day we begin to research and browse for information. Blog and share articles throughout the afternoon to engage your audience. Join in discussions around topics of interest and build your network.

Evening: ENTERTAIN ~ By the evening time, the majority of us are ready to stop working and be entertained. You will want to join in discussions on tv shows of interest, music, movies, etc. Share videos you like and engage with others about anything “fun”. Just keep it “clean”. Remember that you represent your brand no matter what time of day it is.

Reservoir Park In Massillon, OH ~Summer 09

This summer I had the best time enjoying some of the local parks with my nieces. This was my niece Bryanah’s first trip to the park. She is 2 years old and blind, yet had no fear whatsoever of the slides. She is my inspiration to live my life with gratitude and love.

“If you go to work on your goals, your goals will go to work on you. If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you. Whatever good things we build end up building us.” ~Jim Rohn

“Let others lead small lives, but not you. Let others argue over small things, but not you. Let others cry over small hurts, but not you. Let others leave their future in someone else’s hands, but not you.” ~Jim Rohn

“Take advantage of every opportunity to practice your communication skills so that when important occasions arise, you will have the gift, the style, the sharpness, the clarity, and the emotions to affect other people.” ~Jim Rohn
